CSM Pendry, J. D. (retired) is one of the reasons that the good old US of A is still such a good place to live in folks. Take heed America, some of us did it for a reason, not because we had to.
Hat tip to ya J. D.! Thanks for making the rest of us proud of who we are, and who we have served with. It is an honor that some will never know……

Do You Know Me?
J. D. Pendry
“I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies …” Hillary Clinton
Just before the 2004 elections I had a self-chat about the state of things. The conclusions I drew were that Washington’s (unfortunately our country’s) politicians have little in common with me or most of us for that matter.

The Downward Trend Is Unstoppable
The United States is headed into a crisis of unprecedented proportions. The dollar continues to lose its value versus other currencies. Look at the price of oil this week. Look at the price of gold. These are objective measurements that defy market optimism. Consider the following sources of trouble: (1) runway debt, (2) credit inflation, (3) the bursting real estate bubble, (4) government spending and (5) hidden monetary inflation. In Michael J. Panzner’s book, Financial Armageddon, we learn how creaky America’s retirement regime is, and how liable to collapse. We read about that great house of cards, the derivatives business. In fact, it now appears that default is inevitable on many fronts. The U.S. government has made big promises related to financial and economic matters. Today’s government takes care of millions of people; but this cannot continue indefinitely. And America’s financial crisis isn’t an exclusively American problem. The welfare state advances toward bankruptcy in Europe, North America and Japan.

Iran War Drumbeat Grows Louder
The prospect of war with Iran is beginning to look real. The hardening of positions in both Tehran and Washington over the past week has brought relations to their lowest point since the Iran hostage crisis that began in 1979. Both sides insist that they seek no military conflict, but tensions on issues ranging from Iran’s nuclear program to influence in Iraq and the Arab-Israeli peace process is turning their differences into all-out regional power struggle.

Putin warns of new Cuban missile crisis
Vladimir Putin today compared the proposed US defence shield to the 1962 Cuban missile crisis that pushed the US and the Soviet Union to the brink of nuclear war.”Analogous actions by the Soviet Union when it deployed rockets on Cuba provoked the Cuban missile crisis,” the Russian president said after an EU-Russia summit in Portugal.
“For us, technologically, the situation is very similar. On our borders such threats to our country are being created.”

Yes, I know this place is a mess. Its because life is a full time job and some of the tools required still don’t have keyboards attached to them yet. That’s probably a good thing.
I sometimes wonder if my desire to learn web authoring was really such a good idea in the first place. After all, I’ve always had a tendency to make everything difficult no matter how simple it really is. No surprise there I guess. It is what it is. If its easy you’re probably not putting enough effort into it in the first place.

Well deserved and we salute you Lt. Murphy!

Right Truth has a nice roundup here:
Lt. Michael P. Murphy is the first to be awarded the highest military award for combat in Afghanistan, the Medal of Honor. This is the first Navy Seal to receive this honor since Viet Nam. The Right Truth Book Club reviewed “Lone Survivor” by Marcus Luttrell with Patrick Robinson, which is the eyewitness account of Operation Redwing and the lost heroes of Seal Team 10 in Afghanistan. While this is a story about heroism, suffering, patriotism, and the kindness of strangers, it is also an indictment of American liberals, specifically the liberal media. Perhaps this is why the MSM failed to report on Michael Murphy and the Medal of Honor this week.

BlackFive was on this one from the get-go:

Marcus Luttrell was the only one to survive the events of that day and recounts his narrow escape in the “Lone Survivor“.

Hat tip to Nukes News and Views for bringing this issue to my attention. I needed something to rant about today, and this one strikes a hard chord for me, and it needs dealt with.

Thankfully I’ve never had to deal with the VA, but I do know a few old vet.’s that have. Let’s just say that the reviews I’ve heard weren’t very good. Sub-standard care and miles of paper work and driving make it very difficult, if not impossible to get treatment for those that truly deserve it.
A case in point would be the recent fiasco at the Marion Illinois VA facility involving a string of post surgical deaths. VA Watch Dog
Illegal aliens can get treated in our emergency rooms, yet we can’t take care of those that fight our wars? For all this country does for the rest of the world, you would think we’d at least scratch up enough money to take care of these folks in a respectful manner.

I’ll voice my opinions later. Still. Gathering. Data.

OK, I thought about it. We all know that this is just a dog and pony show in the first place. The fact still remains that we’re the ones voting, right? Or did I miss something here?
Anyhow, GWB may be somewhat disappointing (on a grand scale), but at least he’s got something John Kerry and Al Gore doesn’t have, and that’s a good thing.
Hillary is not an option as far as I’m concerned…….
We don’t need another village idiot at this stage of the game.

Not Again!!!!! This is another one of those issues that just won’t seem to go away. Bad ideas are the norm these days tho I guess. Hey, at least we still have Hillary to figure it all out for us ahead of time. We’re not lost, we’re just part of the “it takes a village” BS she has in store for us when she becomes Queen and CIC. Wake up America, socialism is not the answer to your problem. It is the problem……..

A Navy LOST?
By Frank J. Gaffney Jr.
The Washington Times | Wednesday, October 10, 2007
Irony of ironies: The principal champion of the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) is the United States Navy. Yet predictably few organizations would suffer more than America’s naval forces from a supranational government of the oceans empowered by U.S. accession to that treaty.

This is the mentality shared by most of the environmental protect us all crowd. They’ll ban incandescent bulbs in favor of energy consumption, but don’t realize the mercury in the fluorescent bulbs ends up in a land fill near them. This is the same bunch that keeps telling us we have do do everything possible to remove any trace of mercury from the stacks of our power plants.
Of course getting DDT outlawed made it possible for a lot of people to die from malaria but what the hell, they’re just trying to protect us, right? Heh, thanks but no thanks, I’ve got all the help I need…..

Whiskers
It was in May last year that we wrote, under the title The ultimate in fatuity, of a particularly damaging new EU law, Directive 2002/95/EC on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
This banned the use of lead in electronic equipment, thus prohibiting the use of lead-based solder, the stupidity of which we rehearsed in detail.
Now, it seems, chickens are coming home to roost, recounted in an AP report which tells of ruined missiles, silenced communications satellites and nuclear power plants to forced to shut down. Even pacemakers, consumer gadgets and a critical part of a space shuttle have fallen victim.
The culprits, says AP, are tiny splinters called whiskers, that sprout without warning from tin solder and finishes deep inside electronics. By some estimates, we are told, the resulting short-circuits have levelled as much as $10 billion in damage since they were first noticed in the 1940s.
