China is missing some Uranium and they have no idea where it has gone.Seventeen pounds of highly radioactive uranium was stolen in an attempt to resell the deadly element on the black market.
Four Chinese citizens have been charged with an attempt to sell enriched uranium between 2005 and 2007. The men were arrested in January after a potential buyer turned them in to the Chinese police.
However, the trial has been delayed because Chinese authorities have been unable to locate the missing uranium.
According to court records and information published in the Sydney Herald Post, all four defendants are suffering from radiation poisoning due to mishandling of the uranium.
The missing uranium was described in the press as being “weapons grade.” According to the court testimony, the uranium was obtained from a “military-controlled” mine in the mountainous southern province of Yunnan. More than 20 people are reported to be ill after being exposed to the radioactive material, the Hong Kong-based Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy said, citing an official involved in the investigation.

If you’re going to steal that high quality stuff, you really need to think about shielding first. That trail shouldn’t be very hard to follow…

Colonel’s Corner - August 29, 2007
The days surrounding September 15 appear to be taking on a vital time for America…many officials testifying to Congress for and against various issues related to national security, the Commander-in-Chief is reported as preparing some policy announcement, anti-America elements preparing to spread false, misleading, and distorted messages…and further, American troops will be watching, listening, praying about all this, and yes, probably dying during this week, in hopes America will not let them down…not abandon moms, dads, sons, and daughters in harms way……….
I have a message for our gallant warriors and their families…Eagles will have your back and the back of your Commander, General Petraeus, in Washington, DC on September 15…..we will not abandon or betray over 200 years of warrior sacrifices to a minority willing to surrender it all.

The dog days of August have drawn to a close. This is the calm before the gathering political storm. On Sept. 15, the far-left group ANSWER (”Act Now to Stop War and End Racism”) will descend on the nation’s capital to demand what they’ve been demanding for the last six years in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks: immediate withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan; immediate closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility and immediate release of every last suspected al Qaeda operative in American custody; immediate impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney; and immediate capitulation to our enemies at home and abroad.

More cracks in the economy? Sorry if this kind of news bothers you. I’m an optimistic sort of guy for the most part, but being the old codger that I am, I also try to read between the lines. And yes, I do have a vested interest in doing so. When and if the SHTF moment occurs, for whatever reason, we’ll all be affected by the failure of the good old dollar.

All eyes in Washington are focused on the Middle East as the war there continues, the troop surge in Iraq nears its climax and the ever-elusive Osama bin Laden, assuming he’s still alive, continues to evade capture. Iran is rattling its sword and the hawks in Washington are demanding satisfaction. The 2008 election countdown has started and politicians on both sides of the aisle have begun the traditional blame game of finger pointing, name calling and jockeying for political advantage. The American political process is once again paralyzed by the politicians’ lust to retain power. Forget the business of running the nation; there’s an election to be won! And so it will go until November of next year.
Meanwhile, in a country far, far away, the political, military and economic downfall of the United States is being planned by an intelligent, patient, industrious enemy who hopes never to fire a shot in anger, yet fully expects to win. Its goal: To replace the United States as the world’s reining superpower. The war, by all indications, may have already begun.

Since 1998 I have publicly warned of Russia’s war preparations. The idea of preparing for nuclear war is absurd for most Americans, because the idea of nuclear war makes no sense in a consumer society. However that may be, Russia’s war preparations were as undeniable then as they are today. And Russia is not a consumer society. In the late 1990s Russia was refurbishing huge nuclear war bunkers and building underground cities. The only purpose such bunkers and cities could serve is in relation to a future nuclear war. For a country that was supposedly broke to be spending its precious resources on something so expensive, so far out of the way of “normal” expectations, seemed inexplicable. “Oh well,” people would shrug. “The Russians are used to doing this sort of thing. It gives them psychological comfort. Let them do what they want. It needn’t trouble us.” The public missed the fact, however, that Russia was continuing to violate arms control agreements. It was not admitting to all the nuclear warheads it possessed, and was not reliably disposing of them. It was developing new, deadly, biological and chemical weapons.

Terrorists Mortar Explodes Pre-Maturely
Heh, it’s not every day you get to see a 60mm mortar round go off in the tube. I liked that one. I still haven’t managed to get the LiveLeak videos to embed so just follow the link. It’s short (only 5 sec.), so be quick to check it out.

Bad things can happen with old ordnance once in a while. The M-79 in the picture gave me quite the scare. We would take the gun trucks and misc. weapons to the old rock quarry across from Camp Dillard on Sundays, use up some ammo, test fire weapons, and have a good time. I fired several HE rounds from this M-79, and then it went “poof” when I fired it, and the round didn’t come out the other end. I removed the sights and trigger housing and used a chunk of C-4 and some sand bags to make sure it would no longer be a problem.

You can’t imagine how good it is to hear from these guys. Okie put me in contact with another Deuce brother recently. Pelk has been in touch via email and jogging my memory for me also. His last tour in Vietnam ended when his deuce and a half took a B/44 rocket hit on QL-20. We both did drilling and blasting work in the rock quarries and we knew a lot of the same people.
Welcome home brother Deuce!

Pelk is the man on the left side of the picture next to and behind the guy with the mine sweeper, weapon at the ready and on the ball. I like that attitude. It keeps you alive….

A financial crash is more than an economic glitch. It leads into dangerous political territory. It can trigger revolutions. Financial distress in the 1780s led to the French Revolution. Financial distress brought the Nazis and Japanese militarists to power before World War II. A financial earthquake may cause a political earthquake. A political earthquake, in turn, can set off a revolution, civil war, or even a world war. This is what history teaches.
It is economic distress that drives the average man to despair. Financial calamity changes his political outlook from cool detachment to naked fear. This signals opportunity to the political opportunist, the fanatic and the demagogue. These will always play on fear. America is a country that has enjoyed prosperity, and this has contributed to political moderation. The center holds as long as the economy runs smoothly. We do not know, however, what the effect of a major crash would have on an ethnically divided welfare society with an aging population supplemented by a rapidly growing foreign work force.
Then there are international and geopolitical consequences: Europe is economically tied to America. Money flows from one country to another, and so does financial trouble. This week the European Central Bank reached for $130 billion in emergency funds. The markets are jittery. Europe is nervous. American real estate prices are falling. There are growing losses connected with U.S. mortgages. The solution of lower U.S. interest rates is not an option because of Chinese threats to sink the dollar.

First just let me say thanks to all of you that have stuck with me over the past couple of years, and for being the good friends that you are. I won’t elaborate and make a short story long, you know who you are. You know the rest of the story because you were there in the first place. Let’s just say that you’re one hell of a crew. You know, one of those deals that work for America rather than against it.
Anyhow, thanks for the breath of fresh air. It’s been hot around these parts (100 deg) lately and not a very conducive climate to wood cutting, but you learn to live with it after awhile. Basically you sweat now to stay warm later. I like that concept. It works every time.
I’ve been cutting some wood, (5 Hickory, and 2 big red oaks) in the cemetery where my dad and his dad are buried for the last 3 days. The slots are all filled and they’re expanding the grounds to accommodate the rest of us. Cool beans! At least I got dibs on the wood that once would’ve shaded my future grave. I’ll be sure to make good use of those carbon credits next winter with no thanks to Al Gore. I’ll cut my own wood and don’t need any clowns to help me stack it.

Blast from the past:
I recently (thanks to the Internet and friends), have come into contact with some others that saw the same part of the world that I did (Camp Dillard, Central Highlands,S. Vietnam) and would like to give them a H/T now.
Thanks Okie, You made my day a good one for me my brother…. Some things are best not forgotten and I thank you for the pictures and memories of days long past. You’re a good man to have on the team and I’m here to prove it because of people like you. Nice job Frank! Welcome Home and thanks for being there in the first place……
Okie’s pictures: The banana trees were nice and in my back yard. The gun truck was called “The Wild Thing”.

JB/OUT/stacking carbon credits (wood) and other stuff. We can burn BUNK when we run out of real fuel, (Al Gore) but it’s all the same in the long run. Nothing in, nothing out

I don’t watch TV for the obvious reasons, so I know nothing about this guy. It looked to me like he was trying to slap the FED around just a little. Can you do that?
H/T to Michelle Malkin and the Hot Air folks for bringing this to my attention. We’ve got more cracks in America than those in the infrastructure now don’t we?

Be sure to read the comments for this one at MM’s site. You might just learn something…

This is interesting...
China threatens ‘nuclear option’ of dollar sales
The Chinese government has begun a concerted campaign of economic threats against the United States, hinting that it may liquidate its vast holding of US treasuries if Washington imposes trade sanctions to force a yuan revaluation.
Two officials at leading Communist Party bodies have given interviews in recent days warning - for the first time - that Beijing may use its $1.33 trillion (£658bn) of foreign reserves as a political weapon to counter pressure from the US Congress. Shifts in Chinese policy are often announced through key think tanks and academies.
Described as China’s “nuclear option” in the state media, such action could trigger a dollar crash at a time when the US currency is already breaking down through historic support levels.

My thoughts on this: Thanks, but no thanks, we already have all the help we need…..

Do you know Cory Mashburn and Ryan Cornelison?
If you do, don’t approach them. Call 911 and order up a SWAT team. They’re believed to be in the vicinity of McMinnville, Oregon, where they’re a clear and present danger to the community. Mashburn and Cornelison were recently charged with five counts of felony sexual abuse and the District Attorney, Bradley Berry, has pledged to have them registered for life as sex offenders.
Oh, by the way, the defendants are in the Seventh Grade.

This kind of stuff is becoming the norm in our country and it just doesn’t bode well for this old dog. Intelligence without a little common sense involved is just plain worthless and down right dangerous. The next thing you know we won’t even be allowed to spank our own kid’s butt’s. Oh wait.. Ya I know, you can’t spank them, but you can sure as hell be held accountable for what they do. Of course they have a right to an abortion without your consent or knowledge also. Does anybody else out there see a problem with this? Socialism is the dead end. Pun intended….

I don’t care much for Hollywood or the crap they force feed to the “sheople” that can’t seem to get enough of it in the first place. I don’t like clowns, and enjoy a different sense of humor. Funny that I see them for what they aren’t, isn’t it? Ironic Surrealism at it’s best…….. I should have grabbed it when I had the chance..
Removed Huh…. Trust me on this one folks, it was hilarious.
