Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one. Albert Einstein..(1879 - 1955)

I installed a state of the art Harmon wood/coal fired boiler and used it exclusively to heat with last winter. It’s a nice compact unit and melded into the existing system rather nicely. At only 90,00 BTU it heated 2500 square feet of living area just as well as the 130,00 BTU NG boiler did the previous season. I didn’t even bother to light the pilot light on the Natural Gas unit.
The Johnson Controls and the automatic drafting worked as advertised and it was equipped with a cooling module that allowed me to control the circulating pump in various fashions also. Stack temperature at idle with little draft was 160 degrees and you could put your hand on it. At full throttle it never exceeded 450-600 degrees in the stack, (I used a thermal imaging device and not my fingers to ck) so I didn’t have any problems with creosote buildup and things that sound like jet engines in your chimney liner. I burned oak, hickory, cherry, and any thing else I could get my hands on and that included the dreaded “hedge wood” that the nut roots insured me would burn the whole damn place down. I didn’t get the chance to try any coal in it this year but I might experiment with some anthracite next season on the sub zero days if I can find some. Heh, it’s too bad I couldn’t just burn some of Al Gore’s bunk and save us all a lot of trouble.
The bottom line is this:
· 4000$ to buy and install.
· Approximately 35 S/10 pickup loads of wood sawed, split, and moved.
· No bill for NG heat.
· Return on investment is probably 5 years out if I live through it.
· Next years supply, as OWB (logistics professional) would say, is already in the supply chain.
I like wood, and I’ll continue to chuck wood till I can chuck wood no more. I like to think of myself as a carbon credit, not a deficit. I say, “take a hike in the woods Al Gore”, you are a buffoon and just need to fade away or get lost. You’re not the one feeding the fire. And besides, I’ve found that “bunk” won’t burn very well in this part of the woods.
I’ve long held that Pakistan was the wild card in the Middle East, and possibly the trigger that could accelerate the on going crisis in that part of the world. Musharraf’s grip on power is tentative at best and subject to the actions of several bad boys operating in his neck of the woods. Let’s just hope the United States doesn’t drop the ball on this one. The stakes are way to high for all of us.
This post is dedicated to the good friends I’ve made with my little excursion into web authoring. I couldn’t have done it without you.
The whole thing came about out of necessity when John Fraud Kerry scared me more than Al Gore did in the 2000 election cycle. It was then that I finally realized that the anti-American, socialistic, code pinko types were still gunning for me. I literally had the feeling I was being shot at again folks, and that isn’t a good thing. It was a second wake up call for this old dog, and it made me realize that politics was a serious issue and needed further scrutiny on my part. I did that, and I’m back to report that politics is still just a dog and pony show that has less to do with the real world than most realize. It’s just a symptom of the real problem.
I’ve lost some good friends (the wheels fell off some of them) in this process, but a multitude of others have replaced them. Friendship has a lot more to do with reality than illusion I guess, and you’ve got to draw the line in the sand at some point. If you want to play games, I’m not your man. I’ve been shot at and missed, and shit on and hit, so I do have a certain amount of credibility when it comes to living. Nothing in, nothing out. It’s your choice.
Special thanks go out to Gray Dog and BMC for the wake up call when I needed it the most and to the rest of you for supporting me after the fact.
Now if I could just get everything else in this ball of wires to work…
Yikes! This thing may require a wizard or two after all folks. And no, that man behind the curtain isn’t the ANSWER, he’s only another illusion…………
I’ve got to say that this is one grass roots movement that truly gives me hope for my countries future, but to quote Gray Dog, it’s probably “Only the Beginning”.
Bill Faith at Old War Dogs has done an excellent job covering this event, so make that your first stop for up to date info. This is the link: Eagles Up!
Well, politics does trickle down hill, but we don’t have to like it. Those of us down state know how it works, and it’s not usually for the good of anybody involved. Our current governor, Rod Blogojevich, and other members of our esteemed legislative body are trying to bankrupt this state with social programs and higher taxes on our businesses. Ya, they tried the same thing when they increased the tag fee’s on the truckers and they moved out of here. Heh, we thought Ryan was bad. Sheesh… this stuff is bordering on the ridiculousfolks.
Oh by the way, they’re still working on the so-called assault weapon ban. That should go over good in this part of the world also. Not!
A proposal to ban “assault weapons” is advancing in the Illinois Senate, much to the dismay of “freedom-loving Illinoisans,” the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) warned on Tuesday.Sponsored by Senate President Emil Jones, SB16 — the Assault Weapons Ban Act of 2007 — would prohibit the manufacture, sale and possession of hundreds of models of rifles and shotguns.
And yes, this socialistic mindset is not only driving business out of state to pay for state subsidized health care and a bunch of new bureaucracy, it’s putting the consumer in the crosshairs again. Raising the sales tax would’ve had the same effect. Those that can’t pass off the additional costs to the consumer will go elsewhere. It’s just more bunk, and at our expense again.
Some days I really do miss Texas…………..
