Take it for what it’s worth with and a grain of salt as needed, but never let your guard down. We’ll have to deal with it sooner or later.

Could Wall Street be about to crash again?

This week’s bone-rattlers may be making you wonder.

I don’t make predictions. That’s a sucker’s game. And I’m certainly not doing so now.

But way too many people are way too complacent this summer. Here are 10 reasons to watch out.

Pat Condell -The trouble with Islam

February 19th, 2010 by Exspider

This is a rather bold characterization of religion and faith in general, but it does give one pause for thought on several levels.

(1) Does this apply to all religions and is it truly based on your faith in God, or rather the persistence of the human race and its will to survive?
(2) If so, how does that affect the world as you know it? Remember, that’s a matter of prospective and is always subject to change.

Ya, I know. Dust and cobwebs seem to be the rule around here at IOR and I offer no excuses, dealing with that kind of stuff in the real world is a full time job in itself.
The fact that it’s 0 degrees out doesn’t help much either if you’re the woodchuck chucking the wood.

Disarming America

Weekly Column Published: 10.16.2009

As part of the next arms reduction treaty between superpowers, the United States has tentatively agreed to unprecedented Russian access to American nuclear missile sites. According to published accounts, Russian weapons inspectors will be given an open door to American nuclear sites in order to monitor the number of missiles and warheads. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is quite satisfied with the deal. Perhaps it is an error of omission, but there is no news of a similar concession from the Russian side. This is psychologically and strategically significant: first, because it presents us with a President and a Secretary of State who are mistaken in their assessment of Kremlin trustworthiness; second, because it shows weakness in the President; third, because the Russians are demonstrating a kind of superiority.

Two Leaks and the Deepening Iran Crisis

October 6th, 2009 by Exspider

Stratfor link
By George Friedman
The Iranian Nuclear Game

Two major leaks occurred this weekend over the Iran matter.

In the first, The New York Times published an article reporting that staff at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the U.N. nuclear oversight group, had produced an unreleased report saying that Iran was much more advanced in its nuclear program than the IAEA had thought previously. According to the report, Iran now has all the data needed to design a nuclear weapon. The New York Times article added that U.S. intelligence was re-examining the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) of 2007, which had stated that Iran was not actively pursuing a nuclear weapon.

The second leak occurred in the British paper The Sunday Times, which reported that the purpose of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s highly publicized secret visit to Moscow on Sept. 7 was to provide the Russians with a list of Russian scientists and engineers working on Iran’s nuclear weapons program.

The second revelation was directly tied to the first. There were many, including STRATFOR, who felt that Iran did not have the non-nuclear disciplines needed for rapid progress toward a nuclear device. Putting the two pieces together, the presence of Russian personnel in Iran would mean that the Iranians had obtained the needed expertise from the Russians. It would also mean that the Russians were not merely a factor in whether there would be effective sanctions but also in whether and when the Iranians would obtain a nuclear weapon.

Old War Dogs: RIP Fred

September 23rd, 2009 by Exspider

Fred Marshall Jr. passed away recently. He was a true Patriot, a comrade in arms, and served his country well. May God rest your soul my brother…..

CSM Fred Marshall Jr.

Fred Dwarren Marshall, Jr. April 8, 1937 - September 19, 2009 COLUMBUS, GA— Fred was born on April 8, 1937, to Fred Dwarren Marshall and Irene Doyle Marshall, amid the Great Depression, in Bradford Tennessee, where his family and most others lived in what would today be regarded as abject poverty. They moved to Humboldt, Tennessee, in 1941. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1955 and entered the United States Army, where he completed a 20-year career. He served progressively in every existing enlisted grade, from private to Command Sergeant Major. Fred served two four-year tours in Germany, with successive duty stations in Augsburg, Bad Kreuznach, and Bremerhaven. He married Augsburg native Gertraude Marie Meixner during the first tour, on September 4, 1959, and they were divorced during the second tour in April, 1966. His older son, Fred Dwarren Marshall III, was born August 23rd, 1960, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, between his tours in Germany. He later served nearly three tours in the Republic of Vietnam, participating in eight of the fifteen major campaigns of the war, in addition to three tours at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, three tours at Fort Benning, Georgia, one brief tour at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and one particularly prestigious assignment in the Pentagon, where he was posted as the Principal Assistant to the Sergeant Major of the Army (George W. Dunaway). SMA Dunaway was the Army’s second Sergeant Major of the Army; he personally selected Fred and pulled him out of Vietnam early, specifically for this assignment. He trusted Fred completely, and wanted him to manage his administrative staff. In 1966, Fred was borrowed by Department of Defense for a high-level classified mission which lasted for seven months, in various undisclosed locations. During his final assignment at Fort Benning as a brigade command sergeant major, Fred met Jaime Lorilyn Mott and married her on Christmas Day, 1975. His second son, James Matthew, was born on May 31, 1977, after Fred had retired from the Army and embarked upon a 20-year real estate career. He founded a real estate brokerage firm, Parade of Homes, in 1980, and closed it when he finally completely retired in 1997. He and Jaime were divorced in October, 1987, shortly after Fred’s right leg was amputated above the knee, as a result of the rare form of bone cancer, osteogenic sarcoma. The Court granted custody of James Matthew to Fred. Fred is survived by his mother, Irene Oliver, of Humboldt, Tennessee, and his two sons. Fred III lives in Columbus, Georgia, with his wife, Loretta, and their daughter, Sara, and is a lead programmer analyst with TSYS. James Matthew also resides in Columbus, and is divorced. He is an entrepreneur. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 25th, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 7556 Old Moon Road in Columbus, Georgia. He requested before his death that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the patriotic organization American Underground Network, Box 19165, Charlotte, NC 28219, or online at www.aunetwork.tv.

Nanny State Update: New Government Policy Imposes Strict Standards on Garage Sales Nationwide

September 18th, 2009 by Exspider

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,552021,00.html

Give me a break! I can burn my leaves on the 1st and 3rd week of the month, only if the sun is still shinning? (new local mandate) And does Nancy Pelosi just have to bat her eyes to make it all happen in the first place?

Wake up America, the control freaks are out of control. People that think only their rules apply know nothing about human nature or physics in general.

Sure we should all try to do the right thing, but if we’re not careful, everybody will have rights but you. Once they take everything what do you have left?
That cannon could backfire if not loaded correctly.

Nanny State Update!

August 23rd, 2009 by Exspider

Link to Hot Air

Posted at 4:37 pm on August 21, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

When our founders created the federal government, I’m pretty sure they didn’t anticipate having its power reach into their carriage houses.  Thanks to a particularly asinine piece of legislation called the Consumer Protection Safety Improvement Act, though, we now have federal inspectors threatening to start investigating yard sales and church bazaars.  They say they’re just going to focus on thrift stores and Craigslist … for now:

If you’re planning a garage sale or organizing a church bazaar, you’d best beware: You could be breaking a new federal law. As part of a campaign called Resale Roundup, the federal government is cracking down on the secondhand sales of dangerous and defective products.

The initiative, which targets toys and other products for children, enforces a new provision that makes it a crime to resell anything that’s been recalled by its manufacturer. …

The crackdown affects sellers ranging from major thrift-store operators such as Goodwill and the Salvation Army to everyday Americans cleaning out their attics for yard sales, church bazaars or — increasingly — digital hawking on eBay, Craigslist and other Web sites.

Secondhand sellers now must keep abreast of recalls for thousands of products, some of them stretching back more than a decade, to stay within the bounds of the law.

And I’m sure that Thomas Jefferson and James Madison would be especially proud of this report from McClatchy:

Staffers for the federal agency are fanning out across the country to conduct training seminars on the regulations at dozens of thrift shops.

Yes, because when America was founded by men like John and Samuel Adams, George Washington, Jefferson, and Madison, it was to ensure that we could send federal inspectors “fanning out across the country” to stop people from reselling their old junk.

What did we ever do before the CPSIA protected the US through its throngs of federal nannies?  How did we ever survive garage sales in the past 233 years?  Oh, yes: we used our common sense as consumers.  Gee, those were the good old days, weren’t they, when our government treated us as though we had a lick of intelligence and maturity?

I’m not the only one waxing nostalgic, either:

“Many toys have small pieces that could be dangerous,” she said. “My son played with army men, Lego blocks, all kinds of things with little parts. A toddler can put anything in his mouth. Parents need to have common sense. Ultimately, the parent needs to really evaluate and be watchful of what the child is playing with. We as consumers have to be careful. It really comes back to us.”

Nonsense, Nancy!  We’re not qualified to make our own decisions and exercise our own discretion any more.  We need CPSIA federal inspectors to get between us and those dangerous thrift stores, Craigslist entries, and church bazaars.

It’s the era of Hope and Change!  We’re all idiots!  And that’s why the government is here to help.

Sick Humor and the plan of a life time……

August 4th, 2009 by Exspider

H/T to Flopping Aces and Texas Fred for this one. A little humor is a good thing. Right?

Anyhow, here is what some of our folks in the medical field think of ObamaCare.

divider

Medical Stimulus Package:

Apparently the American Medical Association has weighed in on the new economic stimulus package….

The Allergists voted to scratch it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.

The Obstetricians felt they were all laboring under a misconception.

The Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

Pathologists yelled, “Over my dead body!” while the Pediatricians said, ‘Oh, Grow up!’

The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it.

Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing.

The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the Plastic Surgeons said, “This puts a whole new face on the matter.”

The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea.

The Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and the Cardiologists didn’t have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Washington.

Video: Math Amphetamine-More Bad Math

May 24th, 2009 by Exspider

My good friend Big Mac stopped in for a visit and we decided it was time to post this home grown video on YouTube. It’s something that was put together on VHS along time ago and then added to the Hot Iron Skillet archives at IOR with their permission. I’ll try to get some other stuff posted as time allows.
Anyhow, poking fun at the Meth-Heads was just part of the job I guess.

The music was the real story. More on that later.

Conservative Extremism?

April 15th, 2009 by Exspider

Well the games up now and I guess as a Veteran-American I might as well accept the fact that I can no longer represent my country without being labeled as some sort of right wing kook clinging to God and my guns.

That’s bunk! I have faith for a reason and not as an excuse!
I call BS on the talking heads in your TV set spouting that kind of BS. Extreme? Ya right, but at least I’ve got something better to do with my time and it has nothing to do with a TV set.
